Camden Mountains
from the South Entrance to the Harbor, Fitz Henry Lane

"I like to paint
things I know, things that hold
associations for me, a certain
warmth. That is where I'm rather
odd: most people are in search of
new subjects. I find new subjects
right under my feet."

Romance of
Autumn, George Bellows

In our nation's
northeast corner lies a place of austere beauty.
Here, the light shines differently. Through
artists' eyes, it is a wondrous land; by the
artist's hand, it has become a
destination. Recognized as
one of the finest regional art museums in the
country, the Farnsworth collection of American art
focuses on art created in or inspired by Maine.
The Museum's extensive collection includes
works by Fitz Henry Lane, George Bellows,
Winslow Homer, Rockwell Kent, John Marin and Louise
Nevelson.
In addition, the Farnsworth's
Wyeth Center is devoted to the art of the "first
family" of Maine painting. Here, the most extensive
collection of Wyeth art in the world -- several
thousand works by N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth --
is on rotating display.
